Right-Wing Thursday–”Swiftboating Obama?”

Friday, July 4th, 2008

The choice of topic seems easy this week for “Right-Wing Thursday”.  Everyone is talking about Obama and his pastor, Jeremiah Wright, especially conservative talk radio.  Are right-wing talkers, like Prager, Medved and Hannity, just sincerely searching for the truth for the good of our nation?  Or, are they “swiftboating” Obama?

Why would I, an Evangelical pastor, even suggest such a thing?  I’ll tell you why, because of the glaring double standard.  Obama is being attacked because of his continued friendship with Pastor Wright despite Wright’s hateful statements and his questionable associations with the likes of Louis Farrakhan.  Obama’s renunciation of Wright’s remarks is not good enough for Republicans.  They insist that Obama should ostracize and renounce Pastor Wright himself.

I have a question for my conservative friends.  What about Pat Robertson and John Hagee?  Have any of the Republican Party’s recent presidential candidates completely ostracized and renounced them, not just their inflammatory remarks?  If Pastor Wright is guilty of prejudiced and hateful speech, what about Robertson and Hagee?

John Hagee publicly states that Catholics, who actually believe in Jesus, are not truly Christians, which would mean that they could not go to heaven; notwithstanding, he states that Jews, who do not believe in Jesus, can  go to heaven without Him.  Moreover, in his book, “Jerusalem Countdown”, Hagee said: “Most readers will be shocked by the clear record of history linking Adolph Hitler and the Roman Catholic Church in a conspiracy to exterminate the Jews.”  Hagee is clearly pro-Jew and anti-Catholic, and his words are certainly prejudiced and hateful.  And, Hagee “milks the gospel” financially.  Information released in 2001 revealed that Hagee and his wife had a combined “gospel income” of nearly one and one-half million dollars.  I’ve got a feeling that he is probably paying himself several times more than Pastor Wright’s gospel wages.  If right-wing pundits want Obama to officially denounce Wright himself, they should also ask the Republican Party to denounce Hagee.

Then, there’s Pat Robertson.  If Pastor Wright’s speech is hateful, what about Pat Robertson?  He publicly advocated assassinating the President of Venezuela.  And, he referred to non-Christians as termites who needed to be fumigated.  I’d say that’s pretty hateful.  Oh yes, they say that Pastor Wright is also guilty of blaming our nation’s policies towards African Americans as being the cause of 9-11.  Well, I seem to remember that Pat Robertson did the same thing, by blaming America’s abortion and “gay” policies as also being the cause of 9-11.  Then, there’s that accusation that Pastor Wright kept company with “bad guys” like Louis Farrakhan.  I guess I need to jog the memories of my right-wing friends regarding Pat Robertson’s evil associations.  Robertson associated with, befriended and even entered into business relationships with brutal dictators such as Rios Montt of Guatemala, Mobuto Sese Seko of the former Zaire, and Charles Taylor of Liberia, who was indicted as a war criminal.  According to my scorecard, I’m pretty sure that Robertson has Pastor Wright beat when it comes to hanging around with “bad guys”.  And, when it comes to that “milking the gospel” thing again,  Pat Robertson lives in a huge mansion with a private airstrip on a Virginia mountain, and has a net worth of about $140 million.  I suspect that Pastor Wright hasn’t amassed a “gospel wealth” quite the size of Robertson’s.  Once again, if right-wing pundits want Obama to officially denounce Wright himself, they should also demand that the Republican Party denounce Robertson.  If not, can you say “hypocrisy” with a capital “H”?

Pat Robertson Is Still Out There

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

I guess I should have known that he was due for some more bad advice or absurd statements.  Pat Robertson just can’t refrain from making outlandish remarks or contradicting the Bible, notwithstanding that he presents himself as being a knowledgeable Bible teacher.

While visiting Robertson’s CBN website today I noticed that Pat had a question and answer page.  I thought it would be interesting to see what kind of sage advice Pat was sharing.  A young man had asked, “when is it right to go to war?”  Robertson then proceeded to impart some of his frequently dispensed wise misinformation.  He confidently stated that there are just wars.  And, he added that America’s current ”calculated response” following the 9-11 attack against our nation, is an example of a “just war” that fulfills the necessary biblical grounds.  Pat then referred to a Bible passage, Romans 13:1-4, as supposed biblical proof.

Either Mr. Robertson, the famous Bible teacher, is ignorant concerning the Scriptures or he’s being intentionally dishonest.  The passage he quoted has nothing to do with war.  It deals with individual citizens’ obligation to obey the laws of their government, or to expect punishment from the rulers of that government, which in the case of Rome could include beheading with the sword for certain crimes committed by Roman citizens.  Because he didn’t have a legitimate scripture to answer the question of this sincere young man, he simply gave him one that was taken totally out of context in order to justify his own unbiblical stance regarding the Iraq war.

Jesus, of course, told us to love our enemies and do good to them, not attack and bomb them.  The Apostle Paul said that we are not to repay evil for evil or try to avenge ourselves, but to leave vengeance to God.  When Peter tried to use his sword against Jesus’ enemies, Jesus told him to put it away and said that all who use the sword will perish with the sword.  And, when Jesus stood before Pilate He said that if His Kingdom was of this world His servants would fight, but Jesus added that His Kingdom is not of this world, so His servants do not fight.

Robertson and other Evangelical leaders try to turn Jesus into a war monger with their just war lie.  Moreover, they deceitfully manipulate scriptures to bolster their false teaching.  Another way they do this is by reminding us that God ordained wars in the Old Testament era for Israel, which was His Old Testament Church so to speak.  Once again they practice deception.  While it is true that God did ordain wars in the Old Testament for Israel, they were only fought to acquire, defend or regain a specific piece of land that God had supernaturally promised to Abraham.  Israel’s wars were not fought to police the world.  America is not fighting in Iraq to defend land that God had supernaturally promised to the Bush Administration.  America is attempting to police the world.  This is neither biblical or just.

I guess I should not have been surprised to find new misguided rhetoric on Pat’s website.  This is the same guy that advocated assassinating the Venezuelan President, Hugo Chavez.  Remember, Robertson is a gospel minister.  He is supposed to be involved saving lives, not snuffing out life.  However, this type of statement was not a first for this “hit-man preacher”.  In the August 18, 1986 edition of the New York Magazine, Pat Robertson stated that almost all great builders of our nation have been Christians.  He added that “termites” (non-Christians) have now taken over the institutions that Christians built.  He then declared that the time has arrived for a godly fumigation.  Fumigation is done to kill termites.  If the non-Christians are the termites, what was Robertson suggesting?

Maybe sometime soon I’ll check out Pat’s website again to catch another wacky episode of the “Pat Robertson Show”.

Contemporary Christian Crusaders

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

It has been nearly a millennium since the conclusion of the devastating Christian Crusades, but there are still Christian Crusaders today.  Their methods may appear to have changed, although many in the Middle East who have experienced the “shock and awe” and smart bombs of the American military would probably disagree; nonetheless, the desire for power and control remains the same for today’s Christian Crusaders

The Crusaders of the Middle Ages identified their enemies based upon their Islamic religion and geographical sphere of influence, then attacked and attempted to coerce them to submit to the Crusaders’ form of governance.  Likewise, contemporary Crusaders have also identified their international enemies based upon their geographical sphere of influence and their supposed “terror connections” to those within the Islamic religion.  They have labeled them as being an axis of evil.  However, there is another unholy alliance of politics and religion existing within the Christian right-wing’s own conservative domain.  It is indeed ironic that a modern “unholy alliance” of contemporary Christian Crusaders is intent on dismantling a declared “axis of evil” that is once again primarily comprised of Islamic people; moreover, with today’s Crusaders again trying to coerce them into their own style of governance.  Deja vu?  While their techniques appear to be more civilized, they still fully intend to win their battle for our culture.

Who are these modern, civilized Christian Crusaders?  They are right-wing, Christian leaders in powerful and influential positions, such as President George Bush, James Dobson and Pat Robertson.  Dobson and Robertson have broadcast audiences numbering in the millions.  And, they have been successful convincing their multitudes of listeners that our nation has been hijacked by dishonest and immoral politicians, which essentially means Democrats.  Therefore, they have also convinced their followers that it is their Christian duty to take their nation back by voting for right-wing candidates who will support their political agenda.

I have established this website and written my book, “Right Wing Politics and Religion: The Unholy Alliance Exposed”, to warn our secular culture and millions of sincere, conservative Christians that these men influence so greatly.  Beware!  Most of today’s Evangelical leaders are not what they appear to be.  And, I am exposing their duplicities.  After reading my book and discovering their intentional infidelity and disobedience to the God of Christianity, it becomes readily apparent that the primary duty and challenge for Evangelical Christians is not to take back their nation from dishonest and immoral politicians, but rather to take back their Church from deceptive, arrogant and hypocritical religious leaders.
