Who Jesus Really Is
Before discussing who Jesus really is, I want you to know what He is really like, according to the Bible. Jesus’ most famous sermon began with the words, “blessed are the poor”, because He loved and cared for the poor. In the same sermon He said that we are to love our enemies and to do good to those who hate us. He also added that we are not to judge people or we will be judged by God. And, He said that we must forgive others or God will not forgive us.
Jesus often stated that we are to be servants of one another, and He said that it is “more blessed to give than to receive”. He spent His life associating with the poor and outcasts of society ministering to their needs. When a woman was caught in adultery and the religious zealots were ready to stone her, Jesus told her that He did not condemn her, but simply told her not to do it again.
Jesus’ harshest words were not spoken to thieves or prostitutes, but to the self-righteous, self-pampering, religious leaders of His day. He told them that the prostitutes would enter heaven before them. Moreover, He said that their phony religion made people twice as bound for hell.
Jesus loved everyone, forgave everyone, served everyone, and did not judge or condemn anyone who came to Him. But, He detested, exposed and rebuked the arrogant, greedy, hypocritical, religious leaders who were misrepresenting God and leading people astray.
As for the question of who Jesus is, I do believe what the Bible states; that He is the divine Son of God who died for our sins and resurrected victoriously from the grave. You may choose to agree or disagree with this assertion. However, I ask you to consider one thing. History records that all but one of the twelve apostles of Jesus died violent and excruciating deaths because of their testimony of His death and resurrection. If Jesus had not resurrected from the grave and it was all a hoax, why would these men have been willing to suffer such painfully horrific deaths for something they knew was not true? I would not be willing to suffer excruciating torture and death for a lie, would you?
On one thing we should certainly be able to agree. America’s luxurious, mega church, Evangelical style of Christianity, while millions of children starve and hundreds of thousands of Americans are homeless, does not even remotely resemble the life and ministry of Jesus that we read about in the Bible.
